FMCSA removed TRUCKSTAFF ELD from its registered-device list. Affected carriers must replace the device with a compliant registered ELD before August 23, 2026.
FMCSA removed ten ELDs from its registered-device list on July 9. Affected carriers must discontinue using the revoked devices and replace them with compliant registered ELDs before September 8, 2026.
FMCSA removed five additional electronic logging devices from its Registered Devices list on August 6, 2026. Motor carriers and drivers using the affected devices should discontinue using them and replace them with a compliant registered ELD by October 6, 2026.
A temporary FMCSA exemption allows certain interstate CDL and CLP holders and motor carriers to rely on a paper medical examiner's certificate for up to 60 days after issuance. The exemption ends October 11, 2026.

Completed roadside inspection forms must now be returned to the issuing State only when that State requests their return. Correction, certification, and retention responsibilities remain.
FMCSA removed the federal requirement to keep the ELD operator's manual inside the commercial motor vehicle. Other ELD instructions and driver responsibilities remain.
FMCSA removed the federal requirement for CDL holders to separately report specified out-of-state motor vehicle convictions to their home State licensing agency. Employer-notification duties remain.
FMCSA's final rule expressly confirms that Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports may be completed electronically. The rule does not prohibit paper DVIRs or create a new daily-report requirement.
FMCSA's 2026 final rule limits eligibility for non-domiciled commercial learner's permits and CDLs to applicants who meet specified, verifiable requirements. Drivers should rely on their State licensing agency and current FMCSA guidance for individual eligibility.

FMCSA and Homeland Security Investigations announced a joint operation involving approximately 75 entry-level driver training schools suspected of improper certifications, falsified records, or inadequate training.
The replacement period has ended for specified Safe ELD and MYLOGS devices. FMCSA states that drivers found using the revoked devices may now be cited and placed out of service.
FMCSA launched Motus, the U.S. DOT Registration System, on May 19, replacing legacy registration applications with a centralized system using identity and business verification controls.

A bipartisan Senate proposal would require a federal study of chameleon carriers and direct FMCSA to develop and test an advanced automated screening tool. The bill is proposed legislation and creates no current carrier or driver requirement.
FMCSA's 2026 regulatory agenda lists a proposed rulemaking to strengthen standards for initial and continued listing of training providers on the Training Provider Registry. Current ELDT requirements remain in effect.
FMCSA's 2026 regulatory agenda lists a proposed rulemaking that may consider a proficiency examination or other methods for confirming new-carrier knowledge. No new examination is currently required.
