FMCSA and DHS Expand Enforcement Against Suspected CDL Training Fraud

FMCSA and Homeland Security Investigations announced a joint operation involving approximately 75 entry-level driver training schools suspected of improper certifications, falsified records, or inadequate training.

What Changed: FMCSA announced that it is working with the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations division to investigate approximately 75 entry-level driver training schools suspected of fraudulent or improper activity. The concerns described by FMCSA include improper driver certifications, falsified training records, and failure to provide required training. Current Status: This is an enforcement initiative. It is not a new CDL or ELDT rule for drivers. Current Entry-Level Driver Training requirements and the Training Provider Registry remain in effect.

What Drivers / Owner-Operators Should Do Now

Before enrolling or paying a provider, confirm that the school is currently listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry. Keep proof of enrollment, payment, completed training, and any certification or registry submission. Contact the provider or appropriate licensing agency if a training record appears incomplete or inaccurate.
