Broker & Load Fraud Verification Toolkit

Compare official FMCSA records, contact information, rate confirmations, pickup details, and payment instructions before deciding what needs further verification.

Clear To Roll

Stop for immediate safety or theft concerns. If cargo theft is in progress, a driver or facility is in danger, or freight has been redirected without authorization, contact the appropriate law-enforcement or emergency authorities first. Do not confront suspected offenders.

Verification aid — not a legitimacy decision. This toolkit is provided for planning, fraud-awareness, organization, and recordkeeping only. It does not determine whether a broker, carrier, contact, load, payment instruction, or transaction is legitimate, safe, authorized, insured, financially responsible, or compliant. Clear To Roll does not investigate, verify, approve, certify, screen, qualify, rank, recommend, or guarantee any company, person, load, payment, or transaction. Official records can change, and matching information does not prove that the person contacting you is authorized to act for the listed company. Use official sources, independent contact methods, company procedures, insurance guidance, law enforcement, and professional advice where appropriate.

Use official and independent contact channels. FMCSA recommends confirming broker and carrier phone numbers through SAFER and calling the published number when information does not match. FMCSA also warns that top search results and professional-looking documents may be fraudulent. Use the official FMCSA tools and a separate trusted contact method.

Motus fraud warning. FMCSA has warned that bad actors are impersonating Motus through phishing emails and look-alike websites. The legitimate Motus website is motus.dot.gov. Go directly to the official site rather than using links in unexpected or unsolicited messages.

FMCSA has reported phishing messages using wording such as: “Notice of Required Off-Cycle Update.” Not every Motus-related email is fraudulent, but verify independently before clicking any link. See the official FMCSA Fraud Alerts page for current guidance.
